Das hilft zum Beispiel dabei, die optimale Position von Mikrophonen in einem Tonstudio zu bestimmen. Der Raum ist so gebaut, dass kein Echo von den Wänden zurückgeworfen wird. Cleveland's NASA Glenn Research Center's Acoustical Testing Laboratory (ATL) provides acoustic (sound) emissions testing and noise control services to a variety of customers, particularly for microgravity space-flight hardware that must meet International Space Station limits on noise emissions. The Lab's state-of-the-art, echo-free interior provided an ideal location for the Cleveland Institute of Music here in University Circle. The Audio Recording Department conducted research on the patterns that sound travels from several musical instruments. They could determine the ideal placements of microphones for audio recordings.
