An age-of-the-captain-problem is a nonsensical word problem. Although many numbers are given the question is either unanswerable or much of the the information given is not needed. Quite surprisingly, many children still try to figure out the answer. Here is an example of such a problem:
A captain owns 26 sheep and 10 goats. How old is the captain?
