• Schelfeis in der Antarktis: die Eiswand ist gut 60 bis 70 Meter hoch. Unter Wasser wird die Mächtigkeit (Diche) auf gut 300 Meter geschätzt. Schelfeis entsteht, wenn die Eismassen von Gletschern das offene Meer erreichen. Breche Teile des Schelfeises ab, schwimmen sie als Tafeleisberge im Wasser.
