Matte
... in German is similar to the English matter (externer Link)
- In metallurgy, "Matte" means unwanted material at the surface of some molten metals.
- In Hessian dialect "Käsmatte" means the matter out of which cheese is made, i. e. curt
- Both meanings are etymologically related to mater or matrix.
This similarity may or may not have a sound etymological reason. It is noted here as a mere curiosity. You can find a full list under Englisch-Deutsch => lex ↗
